Executive Summary
Building on the academic research, best practice approach and work undertaken by the NESWF over a number of years, including facilitating and supporting voices of lived experience, the NESWF have convened a strategic level multi agency forum across Cleveland’s range of organisations, including criminal justice partners, local authorities, health and voluntary sector agencies to coordinate a range of responses to address sex work in communities, including working with the police and safeguarding those being exploited.
This work has included a conference informed and led by lived-experience. This was with the aim of developing a Cleveland sex work strategy with partners. In addition, the conference aims to train across a range of agencies and help to develop a draft strategy.
The NESWF has recently become registered as a charity and requires funding to enable the coordination of work with partners. This is to both develop and deliver a sex work strategy.
The strategy will support awareness raising, policy and practice change, where relevant. It also aims to achieve better outcomes for those involved in, affected by or exploited in the sex industry.
