The Riding for the Disabled Association Unicorn Centre is a purpose-built riding for the disabled facility.
The centre offers riding therapy as well as learning and training opportunities for more than 200 disabled adults and children from the Tees Valley each week.
Opened in 1998, the centre has become an established part of the local community with a group of about 100 local volunteers helping with riding lessons each week.
In the past year, the Unicorn Centre has suffered a number of incidents. They range from horses being attacked and chased to intruders carrying knives and firearms. They have also included drug taking.
Volunteers as well as disabled participants have been threated which has caused great distress and concern for their personal safety.
The centre has kept a log of all incidents and this has been passed to the Police and Crime Commissioner.
It has asked for £5,068.86 funding to update its CCTV system and add extra cameras. The centre has also been fortunate to receive £10k from a national foundation for CCTV.
