Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Steve Turner is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking company to create Cleveland’s first app for engaging with police and community safety agencies.
The new app is an objective of the PCC’s new Police and Crime Plan and will give the public a quick and easy way to pass information on to his office and Cleveland Police.
Residents will be able to use the app to notify the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) of compliments, complaints or community concerns. It will also allow Cleveland Police to engage and gather feedback from a diverse range of communities.
Initially, any information entered into the app will not elicit an operational police response and communities must continue to use 999, 101 and the Cleveland Police website to report crime.
The competition to find the app’s developers will see the top three applicants showcase their ideas and skills in a demonstration in front of the PCC.
Steve said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for a dynamic and creative company to play a role in creating Cleveland’s first app for engaging with policing services.
“Using technology to combat crime is one of the ten objectives in my three-year plan for Cleveland and it’s brilliant to be delivering against this commitment already.
“It’s crucial both Cleveland Police and my office listen to the communities we serve and I’m looking forward to working with our winning developers to bring this engagement into a digital space.”
The app is expected to launch in 2022 and will remain under constant development and improvement, with future plans to introduce the ability to report crimes directly to Cleveland Police.
The OPCC invites applications from companies who are experts in using mobile technology to provide seamless usability for people from all backgrounds.
