This operation is to initially target an increase in metal theft.
It aims to reduce crime by:
- Detection of repeat offenders and offending
- Reduction of repeat victimisation
- Disruption of any organised crime group.
The second aim is to provide support for the national launch of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act in February and March 2014.
It is a joint operation with colleagues from Durham and British Transport Police along with representatives from all four Local authorities, in Cleveland.
The PCC is requested to agree an increase of £54,000 to the revenue budget of the force from funding already received. The budget will be to used to fund overtime activities to support operational plans (£49,000) and the purchase of the new sting vehicle (Reveune contribution to Capital £5,000).
The approval of the Revenue Contribution to capital will result in a £5,000 increase in the fleet replacement programme to enable the purchase of the vehicle.
